The Club Shop is open for business 7 days a week and is run by Jess Bailey, 17 Baileys Way, Wroughton with a display and ‘shop’ at the monthly meeting.
Jess stocks most basic items from 8 ft canes to plant labels, with one of the most popular lines being a pack of 10 good quality green refuse bags for £1.60.
If an item is required “out of hours” (ie not at a monthly meeting) give Jess a call on 01793 812267 or email on firstname.lastname@example.org. She is always happy to help.
We aim to provide a service to members and tend not to make much profit, if at all, so sometimes our prices are very competitive. To supplement this scheme members very kindly grow on extra plants when they are potting on in the greenhouse, donate extra/surplus vegetables, fruit, and garden equipment, which is again sold at very good rates at the monthly meeting, and its great fun seeing what is brought in. We have sold everything from cabbage plants to surplus pieces of turf in the past!
Magazines and Books
Another scheme which members avail themselves of is second hand gardening magazines, and books, both of which are donated, and then sold on for a small contribution.
Our club shop will also be operating during our Spring & Autumn Shows and the Plant Sale in May.
Our current stock / price list can be downloaded below. Please note prices are as at February 2013 and are subject to change.
Each year the Club organises day trips to garden shows, stately homes & gardens and exhibitions. Club members receive great deals on ticket prices and coach costs. Non-members are more than welcome but have to pay a little extra.
Our monthly meetings are held at the Ellendune Community Centre Wroughton on the 3rd Monday of the month starting at 7.30pm.
Club meetings run from January through to November giving the members an opportunity to socialise, exchange tips and ideas and take advantage of our club shop. Plants are often available for sale and a raffle of interesting prizes and the Members Monthly Meeting Competition is held at each meeting.
The meetings are well organised with a range of speakers and topics. New members are welcome and you will always receive a warm welcome.
If you’re not a member you are more than welcome to come along to any of our Monthly Meetings. We charge visitors just £1. Just come along on the evening or get in touch so we can welcome you on the evening.
We are now offering free refreshments at our Monthly Meetings. Come along early and enjoy a nice cup of tea and a biscuit before settling down for the evenings speaker.
The Wroughton Gardeners Society holds an annual plant sale at the Ellendune Centre, Wroughton which provides a large portion of the Club’s income for the year.
The plants are donated by Club members or by the public who wish to support the Club. If you would like to donate some plants please do think of us when you are sowing your seeds for the coming year, plant a few extra and bring them along to the Ellendune Centre on sale day from 8am.
At the March meeting the Club will once again be running the popular ‘Seeds on Seats’ campaign.
Seeds of Seats
During the year we have a seed swop system going, members bring in surplus packets of seed (unopened) and swop them for something else on our board. If they don’t want to do a swop, a small donation is requested instead. In either February or March, we use the seeds kindly donated in this way by members, attach a plant label, and this packet of seeds and label, on every chair at our monthly meeting. We then ask members to grow the seeds, pot them on, use some for themselves, donate some to the plant stall at the Spring Show, and donate the rest to the Plant Sale at the end of May. Members don’t know what they will be getting, and have a great deal of fun growing something they would not normally do.
Thank-you to all who donate to the Plant Sale
The Club holds two annual shows, in the spring and the autumn.
We are constantly trying to improve on the number of entries and are always adding new classes to spice things up!
If you have never entered before then do try giving it a go. It’s a lot of fun and once you have won one of the treasured prize cards you will be hooked!
There are plenty of people who are willing to help, just ask.
