Club news: The most important event for the Club this month is our annual Autumn show to be held on Saturday the 23rd of September. With all those wonderful flowers, fruit & vegetables you are now harvesting just bring along something to enter, remember every entry counts and goes towards having a great show. Schedules available from Julie Dowsett on 01793 814118 or firstname.lastname@example.org . Plenty of interesting classes for children, so get encouraging your children or grand children to enter, remember all children’s classes are free. If you cannot enter anything, just come along to admire the entries, have chat, a cup of tea and a slice of cake for which this event is so well known! At our July meeting our speaker was Lynda Warren, giving a talk on “The wartime kitchen garden”, which provoked memories for some of our older members and painted a vivid picture for the younger members , after the talk, recipes of wartime dishes were available, using some unusual substitutes for the basic ingredients. The winner of our member’s monthly competition “ a Summer flower”,was Maureen Herbert, with a beautiful spray of gladioli. Our speaker, on Monday the 18th will be, Caroline Sheldrick, giving us a talk on Medicinal herbs . The member’s monthly competition, is “any vegetable”, with such a good growing year, let us all try and bring something along even if it is just one runner bean!
With the need to use the watering can less frequently, the following comes to mind, “If you water it and it dies, it’s a plant. If you pull it out and it grows back, it’s a weed.”
See you at the Autumn show!
