Club news; on Monday 21st of August, our speaker for the evening was Rosy Hardy, gold medal winner at this year’s Chelsea flower show, from Hardys cottage garden plants, with a talk on herbaceous perennials, Rosy had brought along a large selection of plants from her nursery, near Whitchurch in Hampshire, to talk about each in detail. All the plants were divided up into three groups, shade loving, semi-shade and full sunlight locations, going on to explain the various growth habits and propagation of each of the plants, which was very useful, later when the plants were available for sale, most of the plants Rosy had brought along were quickly sold. In addition there were seeds available for many of their plants & many heritage varieties that are difficult to find elsewhere. This month our speaker, on the 16th will be a welcome return of Eva Rogers, with a talk on “Herbaceous borders”. The member’s competition will be” any vegetable”, we all have something growing in the garden so just bring something along to make this a good competition. Do not forget we are looking for nominations for committee members to join our hard working committee and have your say, and bring new ideas to the Club.
