On Monday the 20th of October our speaker for the evening was Marcel Floyd on “growing clematis”, Marcel took us through the various groups of clematis, their origins & pruning requirements. We were shown how different varieties thrived at specific locations. The talk then took us through the correct time & method to propagate clematis from cuttings and the correct feeding of plants. The talk was followed by a slide show showing the various forms the plants take & how we have our own native variety we all know as old man’s beard, with which we are all familiar. At the end of the meeting members had the opportunity to purchase plants from a large selection Marcel had brought along. This was our last speaker for 2014, I am indebted to Noel Williams, our former Secretary, for providing a full a varied programme of speakers for the past year, we have an interesting programme of speakers for next year with, hopefully, something of interest for everyone. The October members monthly competition was won by our treasurer, Paul Mills, with a splendid multi-coloured vine leaf. There will be no monthly meeting in December, but remember we will be holding our Christmas social on Monday the 15th of December at the Ellendune Hall. Please come along for an enjoyable evening of entertainment plus something “special” being put on by the committee members. Our next monthly meeting will be held on Monday 19th of January 7-30 pm, an evening of members slides and photographs, the evening will be organised by Norman Mathews, so if you wish to contribute please speak to Norman, unfortunately another year has past & it will be time to renew your membership, still probably the best value in Wroughton! Our member’s competition for January will be “best photograph of your garden”.
Well I think that is about all for this article and this year & on behalf of the committee members of Wroughton & district gardeners Society to wish you a merry Christmas & a happy gardening New Year.
